Research and Ethics

In my so called research class, banyak belajar the theoretical aspects of qualitative research although I'll be more into quantitative (mak ckp, 'tak apa, belajar je semuaaa benda, ilmu kan..'). Agree. Macam nak menjala ikan, walaupun niat nak makan ikan besau2 je, tp guna jala yang kaut sume ikan2 termasuk la ikan kecik,besau, sederhana besau dan sebagainya. Erm, mcm tak sesuai pulak analogy ni.

Anyway, when it comes to social science research, people will try to dig and understand the reasons why human acted in such a way. Naturally, anything that has to do with human behaviour will consequenlty relate to the issue of ethics.

Macam, bila researcher reveals something unethical (macam percakapan yang mengutuk bos--> most probably a frank opinion on his boss), atau some unethical-but-deemed-'ok' sort of practice of a biz, mcm rasuah ke, inefficient workers ke..pape la.., akan timbul lah soalan mcm, is it ethical for the researcher to reveal or publish such findings in his research? Wait, who's the wrongdoer here? Researcher tu cuma report what he observed, bukan dia buat cerita. And the people being observed, realizing that such revelation akan buat jatuh saham dia, claim that its unethical for the researcher to publish such report. So they would get the 'honest' report, alter it, return it, smiling, 'Now u can publish it'. Ooo...

Hm..ntah. It is not a good thing to do, bagitau keburukan orang la kan. But from the research perspective, isn't it the purpose of doing research? Kalau bukan utk itu, what's the point of doing research? We want to improve, and want everybody to learn from it. Of course it's gonna involve many other issues that I dont intend to discuss here, tapi itulah. I'm looking at this stuff only on the surface, takmo gi dalam2 nanti lemas. At least by allowing researchers to reveal whatever they have to reveal, akan make the people in the organization to behave sort of ethically.

Tibe teringat my ustaz skolah rendah cakap, nanti kat akhirat akan ada satu screen besau (gila) macam kat wayang tapi lagi besar sampai semua orang dari umat nabi Adam sampai umat akhir zaman dapat tengok semua perbuatan kita dari kita lahir sampai kita mati. Masa tu tak adalah soal ethical tak ethical. Fuuhh....
